pwn3d.net Updates

Once a year is often enough, right?

Actually, 2007 was a somewhat productive year. Work was, well, the same old, and a little different new, but mostly the same old. Did some traveling this year, though. Our annual trip was to Rehoboth Beach, DE, and I went down to Virginia twice since October. I moved away from the comforts of Mom and Dad, and into an apartment with a friend in Manchester. Most notably, I became engrossed in a political campaign. It was, a bit, to the chagrin of a friend of mine, and a bit saddening for my dad (who was a Rudy guy). But hey, I've been having a blast with it, getting involved in politics on a level I never knew I was capable of. It's been good, and fortunately, it looks like it could get better.

Someday, I'll follow through and start updating again. Now, I have stories, and I have to tell them somehow.

pwn3d Is...

You'd think I'd have abandoned a word that few can pronounce and even fewer understand. I've had to explain my license plate and e-mail address...or at least try. My theory is that if you don't already know what it means, I probably can't explain it.

Not that that'll stop me from trying.

UrbanDictionary.com defines "pwn3d" as "owned misspelled." But it also claims it's pronounced "poaned." It's still owned, only misspelled. So it's still "owned" to me. Owned is just another gaming term for defeat or domination that gained popularity in both its normal form, and eventually a misspelled form (as in "I owned you in that game"). The "3" swapped for an "e" is just a little 1337speak thrown in there (I won't even try to explain that, but look at an "E" in a mirror for a quick reference if you're lost).

Anyhow, I trace the origins of my adoption of the term back to when I questioned that. Was it "owned?" Or was it "pwned" like it was spelled, just hard as hell to pronounce? No definitive answer came of it, besides the following statement by Warren Georgia during a campus-wide streaming radio talk-show: "Why the fuck are you debating this? Seriously, just get on with your life."

He had a point. Unfortunately, when you have no life, how do you get on with it? And so pwn3d.net was adopted in January 2002.

This site should look decent in any current browser, but it looks really slick in Safari.
